Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to the most common questions about WoW Gold Tracker, marketplace price observations, server differences, alerts, and risk caveats. Can't find what you're looking for? Contact us using the email in the footer.

How does WoW Gold Tracker work?

WoW Gold Tracker monitors public marketplace price observations (including G2G) every 60 seconds where data is available. We record the lowest tracked listing per 1,000 gold for each of 1,360+ server/faction combinations across Retail, Classic, TBC Classic, and Anniversary editions.

You can search for your server, view tracked marketplace context, check historical price charts, see market depth across sellers, and set alerts for observed price drops — all for free.

How often do prices update?

Every 60 seconds where data is available. We poll marketplace APIs and display the latest lowest tracked listing. Historical observations are stored indefinitely, so you can view trends over days, weeks, and months using our interactive charts.

Are the prices accurate?

We pull price observations directly from marketplace listings where data is available, but final seller terms, stock, fees, and delivery details can change on the marketplace. Treat WGT as a monitoring and comparison aid: confirm the final marketplace offer before acting.

Why do WoW gold prices differ between servers?

Several factors drive price differences:

This is why exact-server checks matter: broad averages can hide large differences in tracked marketplace listings, seller depth, and historical price patterns.

What risks should I check before using third-party WoW gold marketplaces?

Third-party gold marketplaces carry risks. Blizzard's Terms of Service prohibit real-money transactions for in-game currency, and accounts found to be involved in gold buying may face penalties including temporary suspensions or permanent bans.

WoW Gold Tracker is an informational comparison tool — we do not sell gold. Treat marketplace rows as observations to review, not recommendations to act. Before relying on any external listing, check:

Does WoW Gold Tracker sell gold?

No. We are an informational price-tracking and comparison service. We show tracked marketplace observations from third-party sellers. When you click an external marketplace link, you leave WGT and review the marketplace directly, not with us.

We may earn an affiliate commission if you later act on marketplace links at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund the service. Our affiliate relationships do not manually influence which prices we display — rankings use tracked marketplace data, and you should confirm the final offer on the marketplace before acting. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.

What editions of WoW do you track?

We track four editions:

EditionDescription
RetailThe current live game (The War Within / Midnight)
Classic EraPermanent Classic (vanilla) servers
TBC ClassicBurning Crusade Classic servers
Anniversary20th Anniversary Edition servers (launched 2024)

Each edition has its own set of servers with independent economies. Use the Edition filter on the homepage to view servers for a specific edition.

How much WoW gold do I need?

It depends on your edition, server economy, goals, and whether you earn gold in-game. Treat the examples below as gameplay context, not purchase advice:

PlaystyleCommon in-game gold sinksNotes
CasualRepairs and occasional consumablesVaries heavily by edition and server economy
Raider (Normal/Heroic)Flasks, food, enchants, gems, repairsCosts can spike after patches or progression resets
Mythic RaiderTop-tier consumables, BoE upgrades, augment runesCheck your realm's auction house and current content cycle
M+ PusherConsumables, enchants, repairsSimilar to raiding, but spend depends on run volume
CollectorMounts, transmog, rare itemsCosts can range from trivial to extremely high

If you are comparing real-money marketplace options, use your exact server page as context only, confirm current off-site marketplace terms, and compare against Blizzard's official WoW Token where available.

What are price alerts?

Price alerts let you set a target price for any server. When the lowest tracked marketplace listing drops to or below your target, we notify you so you can review the latest tracked marketplace context without checking manually.

How to set up alerts:

  1. Create a free account (or log in)
  2. Navigate to your server's page
  3. Click "Set Price Alert"
  4. Enter your target price per 1,000 gold
  5. We'll notify you when a tracked listing reaches your target

Alerts save you from checking the site constantly. Use them as monitoring reminders, then confirm seller terms, availability, and Blizzard policy risk directly on the marketplace before acting.

What currencies are supported?

We display prices in three currencies:

Use the currency selector in the top navigation bar to switch. Exchange rates update regularly to keep converted prices accurate.

What regions do you cover?

We track servers across seven regions:

How do I find the cheapest gold for my server?

  1. Go to the homepage
  2. Use the Edition filter to select your game version (Retail, Classic, etc.)
  3. Use the Region filter to narrow to your region
  4. Search for your server name or browse the grid
  5. Click on your server to see the current price, price history, and market depth

The server grid on the homepage shows tracked marketplace observations, so you can quickly find your exact realm and review current price history, seller depth, and alert options.

What is market depth?

Market depth shows the external marketplace offer rows WGT observed for a server at different price points — not just the cheapest row. This helps you understand:

If you are reviewing a large quantity, market depth helps you see whether the lowest tracked listing is broad enough or whether later marketplace tiers may differ. Always confirm final seller terms before acting.

What does "Lowest observed day/hour" mean?

We analyze historical price observations to identify when tracked marketplace listings have tended to be lower. For each server, we calculate:

These are statistical trends based on historical data, not guarantees or purchase recommendations. Use them as market context alongside seller terms and Blizzard policy risk.

Do you track the WoW Token?

Not currently. The WoW Token is Blizzard's official way to convert real money to gold (and vice versa) within the game. Token prices are set by Blizzard and fluctuate based on player supply and demand within the game itself.

We focus on third-party marketplace observations, which serve a different market segment and carry different risks. WoW Token tracking is on our roadmap for a future update.
